dragonfly mandala

Dragonfly Mandala (1997)

his original knotwork design painting shows five dragonflies intertwined in a mandala form around a symbolic apple core. The keywork within the design represents the grass of a meadow. This work represents a childhood memory where Elantu would take an apple to a meadow where she would eat the apple and lay down in the grass. Then she would attract dragonflies to come and land on her by holding up a finger covered with the apple juice. The dragonfly is a symbol of eternal life in many cultures and the apple represents health, knowledge and wholesomeness.
